Learning Disability (LD) Support

Learning Disability (LD) Support

A1 Care – Learning Disability (LD) Support

A1 Care – Trusted Learning Disability Support in Dorset and Hampshire

At A1 Care, we provide compassionate, person-centred Learning Disability (LD) support that helps individuals live safe, fulfilling, and independent lives within their own homes and communities.

We understand that every person is unique. Our role is to support each individual according to their abilities, preferences, and goals—while treating them with dignity, respect, and kindness at all times.

Understanding Learning Disability Support

Learning disability support is designed to help individuals with learning disabilities live as independently as possible, while receiving the right level of care and encouragement.

Our support focuses on empowering people to make choices, develop life skills, and actively participate in everyday life—at their own pace and in a way that feels comfortable and safe.

Support can range from a few hours a week to full-time care, depending on individual needs.

Who Is Learning Disability Support For?

Our Learning Disability support is suitable for individuals who may need help due to conditions such as:

  • Mild, moderate, or severe learning disabilities

  • Autism spectrum conditions

  • Down’s syndrome

  • Developmental delays

  • Associated physical or sensory needs

We support adults living independently, with family, or transitioning from supported living or residential settings back into the community.

Personalised, Person-Centred Care

No two people are the same, which is why we create bespoke care and support plans for every individual.

Our plans are developed in close partnership with:

  • The individual

  • Their family or advocates

  • Health and social care professionals

Care plans focus on:

  • Promoting independence and choice

  • Building confidence and life skills

  • Supporting emotional wellbeing

  • Encouraging social inclusion and community involvement

Skilled and Specialist Carers You Can Trust

Our carers are carefully selected and trained to support people with learning disabilities. They receive ongoing training in:

  • Learning disability awareness

  • Autism support

  • Positive behaviour support

  • Communication techniques

  • Safeguarding and mental capacity

Above all, our carers are chosen for their patience, empathy, and commitment to treating every person as an individual—not a number.

Supporting Independence and Everyday Living

Our Learning Disability support may include help with:

  • Daily routines and personal care

  • Meal planning and healthy eating

  • Medication support

  • Managing appointments

  • Developing social and life skills

  • Accessing education, work, or volunteering

  • Community activities and hobbies

We focus on what people can do, not what they can’t.

Working in Partnership with Families and Local Authorities

We work closely with families, local authorities, and healthcare professionals to ensure consistent, high-quality support.

A1 Care currently works in partnership with local authorities who trust and rely on our services across Dorset, Hampshire, and surrounding areas.

Our head office is based in Bournemouth, with additional operational support in Dorchester and Lisburn, Northern Ireland.

A Caring, Family-Led Approach

As a family-run care provider, we believe relationships matter.

We treat every client and every member of staff as part of the A1 Care family.

This approach allows us to deliver care that is:

  • Reliable

  • Compassionate

  • Consistent

  • Truly person-centred
